CES MMA Upcoming Fight Talk

Hello RFS Followers- The past two days I have had the pleasure of speaking with some of the fighters competing on the upcoming CES MMA event Friday, April 25th at Twin River Casino in Lincoln Rhode Island.

RFS: Hey Eric, this is Tom Evans from Regional Fight Sports. I am contacting you in regards to your upcoming fight for CES MMA on April 25th. Let me know when you have some time today? I can call u or just do this quickly on FB.

 

Eric Spicely: I'm on break at work

 

RFS: OK, Great! Question 1:What do you know about your upcoming opponent Nuri Shakir?

 

Eric Spicely: He's a well-respected veteran of the sport in new England.

 

RFS: Question 2: How do you feel about CES MMA?

 

Eric Spicely: They are the best promotion In the northeast

 

RFS: Question 3- How did you get your nickname “Dream Catcher”?

 

Eric Spicely: I found it on the sidewalk of Route. 10 in Rhode Island

 

RFS: Last question: Is there anyone you would like to thank for getting you prepared for this upcoming fight for CES MMA April 25th?

 

Eric Spicely: As always Diamond Dave Keefe for taking me in and helping me in more ways than I can count. Tim Burrill, who is the best Jiu Jitsu coach around. Everyone at Tri-Force MMA. Also a big shout out to Jack Prime, Joe Lauzon and everyone at Lauzon MMA who have helped tremendously.

Eric Spicely: That my next fight takes place on the roof. The loser has to jump.

 

RFS: I will talk to Pat Sullivan and the Burchfield family about this and see if we can get it in your next fight contract lol.

Nuri Shakir: Yea man, no problems go ahead.

 

RFS: OK, Great! Question 1:What do you know about your upcoming opponent Eric Spicely?

 

Nuri Shakir: Well I know he is a grappler, he has fought 3 times and he is from RI, that’s pretty much it.

 

RFS: Question 2: How do you feel about CES MMA?

 

Nuri Shakir: They are a great promotion. They are considered the leading promotion in the North East at the moment. So I am happy to be able to fight for them.

 

RFS: Question 3- How did you get your nickname “Mako”?

 

Nuri Shakir: Picked it, It is a type of shark and that’s pretty much me.

 

RFS: Last question: Is there anyone you would like to thank for getting you prepared for this upcoming fight for CES MMA April 25th?

 

Nuri Shakir: My Team Bucket Brigade, Sean De Paul, and Matt Pedro.

 

RFS: Any last comments or things to add:

 

Nuri Shakir: Yea man, I haven’t fought in long time and I am excited for a fight. I am ready to fight

Tateki Matsuda: Yea man sounds good!

 

RFS: OK, Great! Question 1:What do you know about your upcoming opponent Matt Doherty?

 

Tateki Matsuda: I know he is a tough guy, he is from a good boxing background. I really respect his toughness and he beat my teammate Rico, I don’t want to let him get the momentum in this fight.

 

RFS: Question 2: How do you feel about CES MMA?

 

Tateki Matsuda: CES is a great promotion. I feel great, it has been like 3 years since I fought for CES MMA. I couldn’t find an opponent one year, injuries another and I fought in Japan once as well. I am professional I feel like CES is the best New England Promotion.

 

RFS: Question 3- How did you get your nickname “Tech”?

 

Tateki Matsuda: The name was giving to me when I used to work as an expert technician while I was in college at Salem State College. I also have my master’s degree from North Eastern. I was working at Salem State and my friends would call me Tech so it just stuck with me. Tateki rhymes with Tech so it worked. Also Kru Mark Dellagrotte is a very technical coach in MMA and Muay Thai. I am considered by everyone at my gym Sityodtong-Boston to be the most technical fighter in my art.

 

RFS: Last question: Is there anyone you would like to thank for getting you prepared for this upcoming fight for CES MMA April 25th?

 

Tateki Matsuda: I would like to thank all of my training partners at SityodTong-Boston. Rico, Rob Font, Luis Corapi, Jimmy Davidson, Kru Mark Dellagrotte, John Johnston and many others. We are a big family.

Matt Doherty: I know he comes from a great school with talented fighters, him being one. I see he's super technical and powerful. Tateki is someone I cannot make a mistake on. He will catch it!

 

RFS: Question 2: How do you feel about CES MMA?

 

Matt Doherty: I feel CES is a huge platform. Of course we all want Bellator or UFC but that by any means doesn't mean any disrespect to CES. I'm happy I am with them and proud to be part of team CES! They by far have the most stacked cards!!! Of course, when the Mantis is on them! Haha

 

RFS: Question 3- How did you get your nickname “Mantis”?

 

Matt Doherty: The Mantis, came from my very first trainer from TPS (Kru Saruome) we were giving names to live up to in the animal kingdom. Mantis means Fast, Sneaky, Powerful and Flexible.. It was originally "The Green Mantis" but I changed it due to the fact it sounded super hero"ish", and I'm no hero... Yet lol

 

RFS: Last question: Is there anyone you would like to thank for getting you prepared for this upcoming fight for CES MMA April 25th?

 

Matt Doherty: The whoooole Redline Fight Sports team! Fighters like Kin Moy, Pedro Gonzalez, Soap Am, Billy Keenan and Nick Mahoney!! But all the fighters and even people who just train there! We all kill it!! ALL staff and coaches like Eric,Lefty Joe Tien,Josh and Whaset..Owner Chris and Tara for making me comfortable and staff like the desk workers: Andrea, Danielle. Just all! HUGE thanks for getting me ready. Lastly, my Beautiful Girl Friend Shaunna. Seriously she is home while I train after work watching a 3 yr. Old and my new Born Aubrey. I could not do it without her!
